Mechanics of Memory
In Mechanics of Memory, Molly investigates the peculiarities, impermanence, and vulnerability of memory. She does this through the way that she constructs an image, uses materials and processes, and considers the use of form.
11" x 11" Drawing Series
In 2019 Molly decided to limit her use of medium and scale to 11"x 11" graphite drawings in order to focus on her concept at a greater depth. For five years she developed a library of symbols, textures, and subject matter that connect to her personal narrative. These drawings explore themes of spirituality, isolation, imagination, and more.
Occular Drawings
The shape of the Occular Drawings are pinched at the center to evoke the bending of time and space. These images illustrate multiple memories joined together by a similar relationship to the spiritual realm.
Lenticular Drawings
A lenticular image has an illusion of depth, or ability to change or move when viewed from different angles.
To create a lenticular drawing, Molly cuts two drawings into strips and glues them onto a corrugated form. This allows the viewer to witness one drawing from one side and a different drawing from the opposite side. Molly is most interested in what happens when the viewer walks around the piece, how do they digest this transition? She believes that this distortion emulates the ephemerality of memory.
